Hessonite (Gomed)

Hessonite is the cinnamon-colored variety of the Grossular Garnet. It is one of the Navratan gemstones. Hessonite always has a brownish hue in it. They have a very distinguishable ‘scotch in water’ effect in them. They are generally too heavily included to be used in jewelry. Its various sources include Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Kenya, Tanzania, and Brazil.

Hessonite is given to a person to lead him/her to a path of righteous living and salvation. It is the birthstone of Aquarius (Kumbh Rashi). It is believed to have a link with the Crown (Sahasrara) Chakra of the body. Hessonite of a medium-to-medium dark orange is the one generally preferred by people for astrological purposes.
