Citrine refers to the yellow variety of Quartz. Its durability, attractive color, and affordability make it a top-selling gemstone. It works as a good imitator for yellow sapphire. Iron causes the color in citrine. It generally has a strong visible color zoning. Since natural citrine is rare, most of them are heat treated. Main sources of citrine include Bolivia, Spain, Madagascar, Mexico, and Uruguay. Amethyst from Brazil is generally heated to make Citrine. They are generally faceted to make designer jewelry pieces.
