Catseye chrysoberyl (Lehsuniya)

‘Catseye’ or ‘Catseye chrysoberyl’ is a phenomenal variety of chrysoberyl. It has a special phenomenon called Chatoyancy caused due to the inclusions in the stone which forms an eye at the top of the stone. It is one of the 9 Navratan stones. They are generally cut as cabochons or ‘pota’ to highlight the eye forming due to the needles in the stone. Good quality Catseye has a milk and honey effect. This effect can be seen when light is placed perpendicular to the stone. The side closer to the light has the same appearance as before but the other side has a milky appearance. 

Sri Lanka has the finest catseye in the world. Other sources include Myanmar, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, and so on. It has its highest demand in Asia.

Its various imitations include plastic, cats eye quartz, and cats eye tourmaline.

Astrologists suggest Catseye to relieve a person from worldly problems and give him peace. The Aquarius (Kumb) and Capricorn(Makar) zodiac signs generally wear this Catseye stone. People prefer to wear a catseye with a sharp central eye and a beautiful milk and honey effect adding to its beauty.
